You will be given your own unique link that goes to your affilates page - Everytime someone makes a purchase through that link you get paid.
One way of getting high rankings in the search engines is by have lots of links from other sites pointing to your site. The website of the affiliate program you are promoting is benefiting from all the links that you (and everone else) is creating that point to that site.
It is a good idea to first have your prospective customers go to your own site. Once the customer is at your site get their name and email address so you can build your own list. Even if they dont buy the product you are promoting they might buy something else at a later date.

my answer? well surveys are a joke, you will not make any money doing that - all your going to get is alot of spam. As for free ipods,

You could build a site, and sell products, or sell on ebay, but as far as I am concerned the best thing you can do is sell digital products that are instantly delivered to the customer.
You dont need to create your own product, and you dont even need your own website.
